Call for Reviewers of Knowledge Area Descriptions of the

Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK V3)

The IEEE Computer Society is now soliciting public review comments for the Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK V3). The SWEBOK Guide (2004 Version) is also known as Technical Report ISO/IEC TR 19759.  The purposes of the SWEBOK Guide are: to characterize the contents of the software engineering discipline; to promote a consistent view of software engineering worldwide; to clarify the place of, and set the boundary of, software engineering with respect to other disciplines; to provide a foundation for training materials and curriculum development; and to provide a basis for certification and licensing of software engineers.

Changes to the SWEBOK Guide include the updating of topic descriptions in the 2004 version, inclusion of topics that have gained general acceptance since 2004, retirement of topics that are no longer relevant, addition of five new knowledge areas (KAs) that provide a guide to foundational knowledge in software engineering, better integration of the related disciplines, and renaming and distribution of some material into different knowledge areas.

Each of the 15 KAs will be published as it becomes available for review.  Reviewers will be asked to read the review instructions and enter their review comments including their email address at computer.centraldesktop.com/swebokv3review (see right column).   Reviewers will be notified when KAs become available for review (see left column).  Each KA, when posted, will be available for review for 30 calendar days from the date of posting.
